A-One: The roster of films that make my personal canon. Not always a 5-star rating, but simply my all-time favourites.
A to Z Shelf Picks:Reviews of the physical media I own, progressing alphabetically from a to z.
Childhood Classics: Reviews of movies meant for a primary demographic of younger kids.
Current Releases: Reviews of new releases or movies that have only become accessible to me in theatres within the current calendar year.
Franchise Focus: Reviews of each title within a franchise, with a ranked summary post to cap everything off.
Game Day: Reviews of sports films or movies with athleticism central to the plot.
Highlights: Good or bad, these are general reviews for any films that aren’t meant to be slotted into one of the other categories.
Hooptober: Created by Letterboxd user Cinemonster, Hooptober is an annual (re)viewing project for horror films meant to promote community and to help introduce those less familiar with the genre. It’s essentially 31 reviews in as many days (or a little more) based around a unique list of criteria released in advance by Cinemonster.
Personal Spotlight: Reviews of a small grouping of films with a specific person in common. This person can be an actor, director, writer, cinematographer, etc. The goal is to learn more about the work of the person being highlighted.
Recaps:
Rental Round-Up: A basic summary of my most recent grouping of rented movies. Meant to be more of a quick look, but individual titles may get their own full reviews too.
Mid-Year Check-In: My current Top 10 of the year (accessible to me as new releases within the current calendar year), some honourable mentions, any films that didn’t quite hit expectations, and what I’m looking most forward to for what’s still to be released. Using the Oscars as the official reset point for recapping, the Mid-Year Check-In will usually be posted around the end of August/beginning of September.
/Year/ Anticipated Films: An unranked list of my most anticipated titles (hopefully) to be released in the upcoming calendar year. This will be posted in the last couple weeks of December for the upcoming calendar year.
Annual Lookback: My ranked Top 20 of the year followed by an unranked list of honourable mentions. Using the Oscars as the official reset point for recapping, the Annual Lookback will be posted in advance of the Oscars, around February or March. This timing gives me a better chance to catch up on as many films as possible. Basically, what’s included are new releases accessible to me within the calendar year (Jan.-Dec.), but my year regarding recaps runs roughly from March of the year in question until February of the following calendar year.
Annual Curated Movie Day: Every year, my wife and I spend a day marathoning a group of 4-5 movies that I choose based around a theme. The titles in these recap posts are not ranked, but are presented in a numbered list to represent the order in which we organized watching them.
Theme!: Essentially a collection of highlight reviews for a small grouping of films chosen around a theme that’s more specific than the other categories.
